Air Show Signs Overhead in Punta Gorda -- Coming this Weekend

Sitting here typing I hear the sound of planes soaring over my roof foreshadowing the upcoming air show this weekend in Punta Gorda. While the show will be missing the Blue Angels, who have dedicated their time this year to military shows only, the agenda for the weekend is  packed with fun- filled spectacular features both on the ground and in the sky.  And a new touch has been added -- a preshow with Flying Elvises.

Aerial stunts, high-speed military jets, and acrobatic pilots are just some of the thrills you can expect during the 30th Annual Florida event starting Saturday including in the air: the aeroshell demonstration team, Rob Holland's MX2 Aerobatic entertainment, John Klatt with the National Guard, Manfred Radius known as the "The King of Sailplane Aerobatics, Matt Younkinn, and the U.S. Special Operations parachutte team. And on the ground a variety of military and civilian aircraft will be on display.

But even before the show opens this weekend, the Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Merchants' Association are putting on a pre-show extravaganza "Downtown Take Off" on Thursday, April 8. There will be tethered hot air balloon rides. The flying "Elvis" skydivers will float into the center of town in an illuminated display. And the Boogiemen will blast there Southern Rock sound into the night welcoming visitors and show participants.   It will be a great night to enjoy the wonderful weather we are now having!
