Coconut Craze Moves to the Court House on Friday, April 30

This year's Coconut Craze event takes a new turn.  Instead of the coconut races in the river, on Friday, April 30 5-9pm, downtown on the Old Courthouse steps, there will be a Coconut Craze Festival with a decorating contest and  lots of other festivities. Come on down and enjoy food, beer, wine, and live entertainment. Taylor Street will be closed off between Olympia Avenue and Herald Court, and this year each coconut will be presented to the audience from the steps, with judging on both appearance and presentation.

You can call 941/575-9099 to buy a coconut, take it home decorate it, then come on downtown and enjoy the party.  There will also be a Peoples' Choice Award given.

While I'll truly miss the bobbing nuts on the river, on or off water, this event is usually a lot of fun. By the way, don't forget to give your decorated coconut a name.
