It's a Great Day for the Irish in Punta Gorda -- A Few Celebration Suggestions

Punta Gorda with its Irish-like bars and spirit is a great place to share some blarney over a few brews and listen or better yet dance to great celtic sounds.   Here's a few suggestions for the Day:

Downtown Gallery Walk

You may want to make a walk downtown part of your St. Pat's Day Crawl.  This month's gallery walk will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with art demonstrations and exhibits, food and drink sampling, live music and a chance for someone to win a pot of gold filled with $80.

Everyone is invited to wear green and get a picture taken at Kay’s Kloset. . At Centennial Bank, the Higher Ground Performing Arts “HG Breakers,” a high energy street-dance presentation, will perform during the evening.

To win the pot of gold, pick up a game card at any participating merchant. Gallery Walk maps are available at the Punta Gorda Chamber of Commerce,  or online at www.pgdowntownmerchants.com. For more information, call 941-505-1915.

Fishermen's Village

The Village throws  it's annual St. Patrick's Day Celebration with free admission. Festivities begin at 5 pm with Lee County Pipes and Drums parading through the Village, followed by the Celtic Beat Irish Dancers in Center Court.  You can dance to music until 9 pm by Paul Cottrell and Friends, featuring Soloist Steve Ford performing Celtic and Irish Tunes, Paul Elliott performing Sea Chanty's and more. Corned Beef and Cabbage and libations will be offered in center court for nominal fees.

Ice House Pub

One of the city's traditional pubs is having a St Paddy's Day Party... with corned beef and cabbage and  live music from John Reno 2- 5, Swamp Donkie 6- midnight.  (Usually bagpipers stop by as well.)

Celtic Ray

"There will be NO green beer.....Beer is already delicious, it doesn't need any green dye to make it taste better or look better..." says the Ray on Facebook.

There will, however, be music all day including:

Afternoon entertainment: Bruce Stuart.
Early evening: Gordon Smith.
Night: Flurgin starts at 8 p.m. (According to their Facebook "Fueled by shenanigans and imbued with the powers of beer and whiskey, this band will entertain you all night!")

And the Ray's food -- it's Irish every day.
