Punta Gorda among safest communities in Southwest Florida

According to the Uniform Crime Statistics, Punta Gorda continues to rank well when compared to similarly sized municipalities across the state in terms of safety. Compared to 19 other cities with a population between 15,000 and 20,000, Punta Gorda continues to be among the safest with the 2nd lowest crime rate (behind Marco Island).   In Southwest Florida, Punta Gorda ranks 3rd in crime rate for all municipal agencies behind only Marco Island and Sanibel Island.

We shouldn't though allow our relatively safe and well-policed community to put us off guard.   It still is important for residents to lock up personal property -- the largest increase in burglaries has involved no forced entry; meaning burglars have taken advantage of unlocked vehicles or residences.
