Walking the Path Through Punta Gorda

Some five years or so ago, the City started to bring to fruition one of  the dreams of citizens who organized after Hurricane Charley to transform Punta Gorda, a ring of pathways around the City that would transform the city into a more pedestrian and bicyclist friendly commuity .  For the last few weeks we have been watching some of the major connectors of this ring come into being opening up incredible lovely vistas for walkers and pedallers.

The  newest section of linear park that wiggles alongside a stream from Cross Street (41N) to Olympia is getting close to completion.  We walked there today past the patch of Oaks dangling with Spanish moss,  past the sounds of wind chimes from the rectory of the the Catholic Church past the newly landscaped stretches of sea grasses.

Months ago when this area of the trail was still covered with dirt and weeds, I had foraged back here in an attempt to follow the stream that wanders from somewhere east of Punta Gorda to the Peace River.  Ultimately, the linear pathway will enable a wanderer like me to walk from the Harborwalk entrance near where the stream ends close to Fishermen's Village past the History Park on Shreve across the 41s to the east side of Punta Gorda past the Historic train depot on Carmelita. Yet another reason to belong in Punta Gorda.
