Nancy Prafke Wins Council Seat in Punta Gorda

Today when Nancy Prafke takes her seat on City Council for District 5, she will be the only member of the Council to be elected in a contested race. Former Team Punta Gorda CEO  won the Punta Gorda City Council  seat last night over opponent Charlie Counsil. Prafke becomes the fourth woman on the five-member council.  She won  the election with 2,587 votes (roughly 63%). Council received 1,513 votes.

Of note, only 28% of those eligible to vote in this election voted despite the fact that the election was widely publicized by the two candidates and voting by mail was available as well as many polling places yesterday -- we need to do better.   Also, of note, is that the electorate through these candidates, who ran competitive, but fair campaigns discussing the issues that face the City, learned much more about the City where they live.  The election demonstrated how important it is for us to have good competition between candidates -- both of these candidates were well qualified for the position they sought to earn.   Thank you Charlie and Nancy for running and being so prepared and energetic in your efforts.  Congratulations Nancy.  I know you will serve us well.
