A Week to Celebrate Punta Gorda's Gardens

This week is National Garden Week and to mark the occasion Carolyn Freeland,  Mayor of  Punta Gorda, read a proclamation at the last city council meeting stressing the importance of gardening to our nation.  The Punta Gorda Garden Club was recognized as creating and maintaining several of the City's public garden spaces.

Organized in 1949, the Garden Club  is one of the oldest clubs in Charlotte County.  They currently give care and nurturing to the garden at the History Park, the frontage space lining the Punta Gorda Library, the garden in front of Laishley Park, and the tropically lush space next the the Woman's Club on Sullivan.  We owe much to our public gardeners including the beautification group  in Team Punta Gorda and the  PGI Green Thumbs who to steal a phrase from the Green Thumbs motto are "making a blooming difference" in our community.  Here's a sampling from the Gardens maintained by the Punta Gorda Garden Club:
