Friedman said in a pre-annoucement that "It has been a privilege serving as Mayor for the past three years. Thanks to Charley, it was an amazingly interesting and challenging period; participating in and contributing to all that has been accomplished has been its own reward. After three years, it’s now time for another to assume the mayoral role."

Mayor Friedman to step down and nominate Harvey Goldberg as next Punta Gorda Mayor
At Wednesday's City Council Meeting Larry Friedman, Punta Gorda's Mayor for the last three years plans to announce that he is nominating Harvey Goldberg, the Vice Mayor, to be Punta Gorda 's next Mayor, noting that "Nobody has worked harder or is more deserving than Harvey."
