Punta Gorda Welcomes Back Jaime Correa at Team Punta Gorda's 5th Anniversary Meeting

A packed crowd at the Charlotte Harbor Event Center welcomed back the man with the plan which helped revitalize Punta Gorda only 5 short years after a Hurricane destroyed many of the buildings in a town that was badly in need of renewal. New Mayor Harvey Goldberg gave Jaime Correa the Key to the City of Punta Gorda following Mr. Correa's talk on a broader renewal project which has become his personal mission --- the 40 percent plan, his roadmap for sustainable living in a world in crisis. Mr. Correa effused about Punta Gorda's action taken on the Master Plan constructed with Punta Gorda residents five years ago with 71 projects completed since then. He noted other plans for cities he's been involved with not even getting started after five years.

Mr. Correa's presentation was part of Team Punta Gorda's annual meeting, this one celebrating the 5th anniversary of the civic group, which was formed in November of 2004 to formulate a plan for recovery of a city ravaged by Hurricane Charley. In addition to Mr. Correa's presentation, Roger Peterson, CEO of Team Punta Gorda, reviewed the before and afters of many of the projects undertaken and completed in the last five years including the Wyvern Hotel, the new Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Dean's Restaurant, Isles Yacht Club, Laishley Marina, Sacred Heart Church and many others. Tom Kerr of TPG reviewed plans for a possible campus of American Inernational College in Punta Gorda.

Nancy Prafke, Team Punta Gorda's President, awarded four Design Awards to:

The Four Points Hotel by Sheraton for Landscaping.
Gulf Breeze Apartments for Site Design.
The Wyvern Hotel for Architecture.
Herald Court Center for Architecture
