Driving by my favorite deli restaurant today in Punta Gorda I did a double take. I noticed a sign posted high above the window "Table 209." Taking a peak, I saw that the familiar eclectic gallery seating was gone replaced by formal dining tables... Wondering what was happening, I checked recent emails from Jerry Presseller and sure enough found the following that I had missed:
"After seven successful years of operation, Presseller's Delicatessen has finally come of age. Plans have been in the works for some time to offer an exceptional evening fine dining experience. While “the Deli” will continue business as usual during the day, we are pleased to invite you to encounter Punta Gorda’s newest supper venue, “Table 209“.
To defuse any rumors that may be running amuck, Presseller Delicatessen will continue to serve the breakfast and luncheon crowd from 8:30 am till 2:30 pm daily Monday through Saturday. Now here’s the great news…the restaurant will reopen from 5:00 till 11:00 pm Monday through Saturday as “Table 209“. Sundays are a wonderful exception when we will open at 10:00 am, serve brunch till 4:00 pm and remain open till 11:00 pm as usual. Chef Nicole Presseller Mroz will continue to prepare your breakfast and luncheon fare, while Chef James King will tempt your palate in the evening. Chef James, having worked in the San Francisco Bay area as well as Portland and Seattle brings a West Coast sensibility to “Table 209”. Paper by day and china by night!
This all starts this Friday January 15th."
The menu is definitely high end with items like Rack of Lamb and Butternut Squash Ravioli. I don't know how well this major change will work in my beloved luncheon spot. I really loved the eclectic gallery and hoped that they would just add more seating there. I am taken totally by surprise by this move. But I wish the Presseller's well, and will certainly try the new venture out soon.
