Go back to the Roaring 20's at the Punta Gorda Woman's Club November 27

On November 27 if you come to Punta Gorda's historic Woman's Club Building, you will have to knock and be scrutinized through a peep hole to get in as the building will be transformed into "The Cotton Club -- Speakeasy" in a return to the Roaring 20s.   The club will take on a Prohibition vibe with music and dancing and decor from a time when the buidling itself was brand new -- the Woman's Club Building was built in 1927.

Interest in this glamorous era has bubbled up recently spawning TV shows like "Boardwalk Empire" about the prohibition era in Atlantic City and speakeasy type clubs  in major cities around the country.

The "Cotton Club Speakeasy" event, a Punta Gorda Historical Society fundraiser,  is "going to have a lot of surprises," Helen Wrobbel the society's President told us with that twinkle in her eye, pulling a flask from the era from under a table at ArtsSensation Saturday.

"You can come dressed as a flapper or gangster if you want," Helen noted with excitement,"there will be  a prize for the best dressed 20's,"

The Roaring 20's event will include music from a live band "Winging It" with lots of dancing.  You can BYOB.  There will be set ups and soft drinks.
