The following information has been supplied by the Punta Gorda Police Department:
For safety reasons, the Punta Gorda Police Department has required all Block Party street closures this year begin at midnight April 15 the evening before the Block Party.
West Marion will be blocked off at both U.S. 41 south and north, as will Taylor Street at Harborside Drive and... Retta Esplanade at Sullivan Street. Sullivan and Taylor streets south of Marion will remain open up to the Sunloft Center parking garage entrances, and Herald Court will also be open to provide access to free parking in the city garage.
PGPD asks everyone planning on being downtown past 10 p.m. to park in the free garage.
All blocked streets should re-open around midnight after the Block Party is over. Do not plan on leaving vehicles parked overnight April 15 within the Block Party perimeter. They are safety hazards during Block Party day, and PGPD will have them towed.
