PGI Marine Watch now 70 Volunteers Strong after Two Years

The Punta Gorda Isles Neighborhood Marine Watch formed two years ago with a team of 20 volunteers who patrol the canals in the City of Punta Gorda at night.   Due to their success, the Punta Gorda Isles Neighborhood Marine Watch now has more than 70 volunteers watching over the 50‐plus miles of canals in the City.

The Watch reports suspicious activity to the Punta Gorda Police Department.

Those interested in joining the Punta Gorda Isles Neighborhood Marine Watch need to commit to at least two hours a month. Owning a boat is preferred, but not required. Volunteers who do not have a boat can be “crew” members on a volunteer’s boats. For those who have a boat, the preferred size is 17 to 26 feet with a bow rail or a T‐ top, where the Neighborhood Marine Watch sign shall be placed. For more information on becoming a volunteer, you can contact Bill Guenther at

(941) 661‐9702 or at radioman3029@comcast.net.
