Beautiful New Section of Punta Gorda's Linear Park Opened Wednesday

The long dreamed about Linear Park, a vision of former Mayor Larry Friedman, and part of the Team Punta Gorda Master Plan came closer to reality today with the opening of Phase 3 of the Linear Park.  "This is probably one of the prettiest parts of the Ring around the City," Friedman told us today as he walked along and inspected the trail prior to the 3 p.m. ceremony.  He added that the next section would be equally lovely and maybe even more so.

The section of the Linear Park opened today starts across Olympia right where the beginning of the Linear Park runs South from the west end of Gilchrist Park.  The new phase turns east along the stream,  where the old railroad ran to the  dock on Charlotte Harbor,  to Shreve at the History Park.  (The next phase will take the park to Cross Street/US 41 South).

The City Council with Major Bill Albers scissors in hand, cut the closure to park and welcomed bikers, walkers, and dogs to the new addition to the City.
