The Mummies and More Blast into Town for Funk Fest Today

The raw, primal, uninhibited sounds of funk will resonate down the streets of Punta Gorda tonight (starting at 3:30) and tomorrow when Funk Fest blasts into town with its ghoolish headliners, Here Comes the Mummies.

Funk bands, which command with blaring  horns -  saxaphones, clarinets, trumphets - and heavy stress on groove originated in the mid-1960 with James Brown.  Punta Gorda's funk extravaganza had it origin when the Nemecs, Nick and his father Matt, owners of Big Crush Distribution, brought the Mummies, rumored to be several Grammy award winners (difficult to verify, as the identities of band members are kept "under wraps.)" to entertain in the parking lot of their then wine bar, Bin 82,  over eight years ago.

In addition to HCTM, among the 15 bands performing are The Motet, who will close out tonight's performance; Dumpstaphunk; Soulixer, a Cape Coral band; the Fritz, out of Asheville, North Carolina; and Greg Billings.

While VIP tickets are sold out, general admission is available.  More information including full schedule at funkfestpuntagorda.com/   Event is held at City Market Place at Taylor and Marion Avenue, Punta Gorda.
