Cheney Brothers Coming to Punta Gorda -- Contract Signed with Charlotte County

Charlotte County Commissioners and Cheney Brothers  signed a contract today that will bring their food distribution center to the Punta Gorda Airport district of Charlotte County and along with it several hundred jobs for the area.

Minutes before the signing, the chamber broke out in applause after the commissioners voted to accept Cheney Brothers' bid to buy 35 acres of land from the county near airport for $2.5 million.

Chris Constance, new Chair of the Commission, elected today, signed the contract for the Commission.  

Founded in 1925, Cheney Brothers started the business which has morphed from a distributor of milk and eggs into one of the largest Food Service Distributors in the South.  The company inventories over 15,000 items with yearly revenues exceeding $800 million.  It is the leading full line food distributor for international distribution to the Caribbean, Central and South America as well as Europe, the Middle East and the Far East with distribution to over 60 Countries throughout the world.

Currently they have locations in Ocala, Orlando and Riviera Beach, Florida.  In Punta Gorda, they plan to build a 250,000+ square foot warehouse that will generate jobs and new business opportunities in the county.
