Fishermen's Village turned on the lights Saturday night -- millions and millions of them jumping slightly ahead of tradition into the 2011 Christmas season. And as the lights went on the Boogiemen blasted their sounds into the Punta Gorda night and everyone danced. Also illuminated and playing their traditional bagpipes and drums, the Lee County Pipes and Drums marched through Fishville as the Village illuminated culminating their tour at Center Court with some Christmas and other stirring music.
Gaggles of locals and tourists wandered in gaping at the lights and the shops, stopping to listen the bagpipes or snack on giveaways and just enjoy the festivities.
The new Mayor -- Bill Albers was there, as was Lorah Steiner, Tourism Director, and Chris Constance, County Commissioner.
And oh there was one other visitor who I'm told might stay around -- Santa. Snacks abounded, a lighted sled towed by a cute brown pony led visitors about, lots of games and stuff.
And oh I almost forgot I did spot one other peculiar visitor -- see below:
