Thousands thronged into Fishville Saturday night to watch the Mayor cut the ribbon opening the Festival of Lights that will brighten the Fishermen's Village through the holiday season.
Santa cheered on as Vice-Mayor Bill Albers assisted Harvey Goldberg, Punta Gorda Mayor, with the honors of clipping the ribbon welcoming all to the annual lighting. Millions of lights were strung from verandas above the village's main walkway as well as from store fronts, polls and anywhere they could be dangled. While many might think we don't have as much to cheer about this year, the event brought out the seasonal optimism we all look forward to.
During the evening, the Lee County Pipe and Drummers performed.
And the Boogiemen blared their high-energy electrifying sound into the night.. suitably in costume for the event. While many danced to the local favorite's rock and soul music.
Even if you didn't make it Saturday, Fishville lit up during the holidays is worth a visit. It's a great place to watch the upcoming Lighted Boat Parade, in fact.
