Hey Hey It's the Mummies -- Funkfest 2012 comes to Punta Gorda This Weekend

If you haven't experienced the nine-piece funk-rock band that blasts out a brassy Chicago-type sound wrapped up in mummy costume,  go out of your way to get down to Retta Esplanade and Taylor this Saturday night for "Here Comes the Mummies,"  Best known for their live performances in mummy attire, the band consists of various professional musicians based out of Nashville and rumored to include several Grammy award winners trying to conceal their identity.

In addition to the Mummies, Cover Art, Hymn For Her,  local favorite The BoogieMen, and Zombie Unversity will perform at Saturday night's concert.

Cover Art is a newly formed SW Florida band that plays rock with an acoustic flair including hits from Bob Seger to Lady Gaga.  Hymn for Her is a husband and wife duo with folk, rock and blues repetoires.  Armed with 2 bullet mics, a three-stringed broom handle/cigar box, banjo, dobro, bass drum, hi-hat, and harp, the duo is said "to cause massive earthquakes wherever they play".

Adding to the fright theme, on a second stage, and essentially the house band for the night,  is Zombie University, who will be playing all night between other sets.  The Zombies, a high-energy band consisting of some former "Those Guys" plus new additions, plays top 40 and more from the 80s plus.

Funkfest will arise from the dead and blast its sounds into the Punta Gorda skies between North Taylor Street and Retta Esplanade in downtown Punta Gorda.

Tickets are $17 in advance or $20 day of show. See www.herecomesthemummies.com or buy tickets at the gate.  A VIP section that includes all food, drinks is available  for $85/person or $650 for a table for eight.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Mission Unity. Gates open at 3 p.m., Mummies go on at 8 p.m. (according to their schedule).
