The following message has been issued for Punta Gorda by Mayor Bill Albers:
City offices will be closed tomorrow and there will be no trash pickup. Normal service is anticipated to resume Tuesday.
Vessels are now permitted to be tied across canals.
The following is based on information received from the hurricane center via conference just prior to the update (2 p.m.).
-The storm continues to shift westward and away from us. The worst of the storm for us should be around 7:00 AM tomorrow, we should expect heavy rains and 30-35 mph sustained winds.
-We do expect a storm surge of 4-6 feet but not until 5:00 PM Monday when we are at low tide. For those of you who were here for Tropical Storm Debby the high water levels are anticipated to be about the same, up to the tops of the sea walls.
-We do expect downtown flooding during the rain event and probably again at 5:00 PM during the surge period so please exercise caution when traveling downtown.
As always stay safe.
Bill Albers
